The origin of the present day Skip Foss et al was the family construction business started five generations ago in 1899. From the very beginning, this family used seller financing and investors to fund housing projects year after year. The concepts and formulas have been passed from father to son to grandson.

Skip grew up in the family construction business. When he came of age, he was hired as a securities trader, working seats on the Pacific Coast, Boston and Philadelphia stock exchanges from an office in Ballard, Washington. In addition, he was a market maker for a number of OTC securities. Later, he became licensed in real estate and went into portfolio management for Peoples Bank, Trust Department.

In 1975, after about five years of Trust Banking Skip decided to go out on his own and began, what in time ,has become Skip Foss et al, Secondary Mortgage Brokers. In 1984, Skip was named Ballard business person of the year for successfully financing the Ballard Hospital, in competition with the largest lenders in Seattle.

Most of our business is purchasing private notes and deeds of trust from private individuals to sell to investors. These investors are primarily institutional, such as banks savings and loans, pension plans trust accounts, and insurance companies. We also sell to a few private investors who from time to time like to purchase good conservative paper within their own predetermined parameters
Our 100 plus year tradition in the business has witnessed many changes. The largest change within the last ten years is probably the influx of institutional investors.

They have brought well defined parameters, and designated yields, giving our market a stability and uniformity it had not previously seen. To the seller of notes and contracts, this means higher prices/lower discounts, along with more ways to sell private instruments.
